An exceptional fantasy romp starring a very young Tom Cruise and Mia Sara. Tim Curry is terrifying (his make-up is flawless who ever did the creature prosthetics- amazing job!) as the villian of this piece.

I think it is very original and no other fantasy movie has ever really looked like this one since. For a 25+ yr old movie it really stands the test of time. I actually wish sets were still designed with so much flare and imagination.

..sigh 3d effects rule all today. I prefer the European versio-cut to the American cut (but I recommend seeing both because their stories and character developments are drastically different). If you like fantasy movies and novels, this one is for you.
