Legend is both a children's fantasy film and a dark and gothic adult fairy tale. The problems for the film come when it mixes the elements together with seemingly no reason. The film injects humor into scenes that don't warrant it and the film never truly decides what tone it wants to take.

However, the film is beautifully shot, and features a very fitting score. The makeup effects on Darkness are legendary and Tim Curry's performance even through the makeup is noteworthy. There are about four or five scenes in the film among the best I've seen, which warrant the score.
