Review of Legend (1985) by Bruce L — 06 Apr 2012
Okay, so far all I've read are six or seven reviews of negative BS, while one review for this movie is a little favorable? Really?! Let me start my brief dissection of this film by bringing up a not-so-little film that took the academy by storm some few years back, named The Lord of the Rings.
LOTR has many trappings first seen in Legend, that EVERYONE nowadays accepts as relevant and modern. The humor, the little people dressed in very similar make-ups, the classical score (if you favor the Jerry Goldsmith score), and the elaborate sets and costumes.
Let's also not forget the priceless creature and character make-up seen throughout the film. It has the classic good versus evil themes, the classic hero who must be tested, and for fans of Shadowfax from LOTR, the white horses dressed and decorated as Unicorns.
Last but not least, Ridley's and Terry's firm planning and editing of either version of the film. And it was all done in 1985-1986 . . . way ahead of the curve, people. This is why I DON'T listen to the critics, but I am sorely disappointed in the audience reviews.
