Review of Legally Blonde (2001) by Jess S — 31 May 2013
There's no denying that all of the charm in Robert Luketic's unconventional fish-out-of-water, underdog caper is exuded from its star Reese Witherspoon.
As protagonist Elle Woods, who sets her sights on a Harvard law degree in order to win back the affections of ex-boyfriend Warner Huntington III (a fine Matthew Davis), Witherspoon pokes fun at the stereotypical California girl whilst adding enough depth and heart to make her instantly likeable and accessible. The supporting players also have fun with the material (Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Victor Garber, Holland Taylor and Ali Larter are all wonderful here) and it's easy to see why this crowd-pleasing romantic/legal comedy has endured in popular culture.
