Review of Legally Blonde (2001) by Matthew R — 18 Jun 2010
Elle Woods is your typical dumb blonde consumed with fashion, getting pampered, girl friends, and marrying the perfect guy. When Elle is dumped by her boyfriend (whose heading to Harvard) for being too blonde; Elle rallies all her resources and gets into Harvard, determined to win him back. With hard work put in, it turns out she is actually quite smart. Her society girl upbringing allows her to see things in a different light and be even more successful than the other students.
Ok, this is a chick flick, but it is fun and entertaining. Reese Witherspoon was perfect as Elle. The supporting cast wasn't outstanding for the most part, but all did a good job. Jennifer Coolidge provided some good laughs throughout. Getting back to the lead, Witherspoon portrayed a smart, funny, never backing down blonde very well. It was really interesting to watch this movie, it puts a whole new perspective on "dumb blonde" jokes. It shows you that stereotypes aren't always true. Though the film is still full of cliches, and the trial scene was a bit unrealistic. I can't see that ending happening in a real murder trial. Despite the formualic plot, Legally Blonde can still be an entertaining film to watch, led by Resse Witherspoons fantastic performance.
