Review of Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same (1976) by Clayton M — 18 Jun 2005
Supposedly this movie was a compilation of Led Zeppelin concerts at Madison Square Garden spanning the year 1973, I say supposedly because there is a rumor that more then a few songs where recorded on a sound stage in Britain for BBC, but sound stage or not, this is truly a great collection of live tunes, buy the greatest rock/heavy metal band of the 70s. The movie (which I will use this term freely when it comes to "The Song Remains the Same" because more or less, this is in-fact a movie) used many cut sense, animations, cinema graphic techniques, etc. to show the dreams and hallucinations and fantasies of each individual band member, while playing there music to help tell a story. One of the best scenes in the movie is when they are playing "Stairway to Heaven" (I believe) and they show Page climbing a tall mountain with an old man standing atop with a lantern, this scene in the movie whether or not it was for the song Im thinking of, kind of became a mainstay for the band a sort of trademark (as the old man standing on the mountain was put on t-shirts, posters etc.) This movie probably also in a way invented the music video, by telling a story through music using a scene. If you like Led Zeppelin or even The Wall, then definitely pick up "the Song Remains the Same".
100%.
