Review of L'Eclisse (1962) by Eric P — 13 Jun 2007
L'Eclisse is a visual poem that demonstrates the weight of the modern world on our shoulders, and our failure to communicate. The final montage in which the two main characters figuratively disappear into thin air (or do they?) is one of the most audacious, beautiful, and powerful in the history of cinema.
Gianni Di Venanzo, who is one of the masters of black and white cinematography, contributes what may be the best work of his career.
