Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Al C — 06 Mar 2011
Nicolas Cage is an actor that I've always criticised, and several of his films are among the worst I've ever seen. The most noticeable being Knowing or National Treasure, but some are among the best I've ever seen.
This being one of those. These two portrayals of loneliness and desperation from Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue are just outstanding. What they do so brilliantly is how they make us connect and relate to their characters, and how they shrive for a purpose and for a reason.
The writing is incredible and the soundtrack is brilliant. This is surely one of the most heart-breaking, powerful and beautiful films I have ever seen. A masterpiece, and a new favourite. I am in awe.
