Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Don S — 17 Jun 2011
Considering the Oscar buzz and the known acting talents of Cage and Shue (whose career I've followed since Karate Kid), I must say I was disappointed by this film. There is not much story, the characters are not sympathectic and the pace sometimes c-r-a-w-l-s.
This is not a "feel good" movie by any stretch - I came away from the movie wondering WHY the movie was made. The acting is very good, but I'm not convinced Cage should have received best actor; all he did was act drunk the entire movie.
So I guess what I'm saying is this: this is a film about people you won't care much about, doing things that you won't care much about and will make you ponder just why you are watching it.
