Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Patrick H — 22 Aug 2008
A simple love story in the city of Las Vegas eventually evolves into something much deeper and more profound than I thought. Nicholas Cage gives a staggering and emotionally honest performance as Ben, a long-time alcoholic, who, for reasons unknown, has decided to travel to Las Vegas and drink himself to death.
This is by far Cage's best performance to date. I would say the same about Elisabeth Shue as Cera, a hooker who eventually realizes that she is in love with Ben, despite his alcohol problem. I do not want to reveal what happens along their journey together because I feel the experience will be ruined if I give anything away.
This is one movie you cannot afford to miss out on.
