Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Amy P — 22 Jul 2009
A very dark and depressing picture about two people who find romance through their problems in life. Nicolas Cage's character is always drinking it is so sad to watch him kill himself through the entire movie.
He never seems to even have the slightest chance at redeeming himself. Elisabeth Shue's character has some better qualities because she functions however her job as a prostitute gets worse and worse.
This is not a movie where a beacon of hope is at the end it lets you know from the start the story shows more of a suffering rather than perserverance. It is definitely different from what I usually see and very explicit.
At the end of the movie you think about your own self and how easy it would be to sink into such a deep state of depression to want to kill survive as Nicolas Cage's character does. Overall, it is a great film because how it shows the sadness and really seriousness of what alcohol can do.
