Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Leighton T — 07 Feb 2011
The Movie that Scored Nicolas Cage an Academy Award, and rightful so. Should of scored Elisabeth Shue one as well, but that went to Susan Sarandon. A Depressing piece about one man's (Cage) journey to basically kill himself by consuming Alcohol nonstop, but on the way he finds a way to charm a troubled hooker(Shue) who basically falls for him.
You can't help but feel uncomfortable while watching Nicolas Cage's performance. He's absolutely Brilliant as a man on a slow and depressing downward spiral. Shue is equally as good, as a troubled prostitute.
Also be on the look out for small appearances by Mariska Hargitay (SVU: Law & Order) and Danny Huston (X-Men Origins, Robin Hood, Etc, Etc..) two who have gone on to become pretty known in their respected fields.
