Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Jenna I — 22 Nov 2016
This Academy Award winning movie was depressing. No happy ending here. But yes, it's well acted by both main characters Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue. For Cage especially, it's an amazing and convincing performance. Definitely not for kids.
Basically this is the story of two people each living in their own personal hell who come together. Their paths meet and intertwine as they continue their way down into darkness. It seems for a while like love might save them, but no, it doesn't.
He's an alcoholic. She's a prostitute. Oh joy.
If you think she's the lucky one in the end, think again. She may yet be alive, but is she in too deep to escape? How much longer does she have?
It may be a well done movie, but like I said, it's depressing. Not for kids. Why might you even want to watch something like this? Not really sure. Maybe to feel better about your own life?
