Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by David H — 07 Dec 2009
I'm not a huge fan of Nicolas Cage, but he RULES in this movie. The movie is impressive because it's a completely accurate depiction of alcoholism and the despair that comes with it. When Sera tries to interfere with Ben, he makes it completely clear that he has no desire to quit drinking for her or for anyone.
Despite how much she does for him, cares for him, and attempts to change him, he is unable to escape the grip of the drink and just falls farther and farther into oblivion. I love it because there is no Hollywood glitz and glam, but rather a harsh picture about the realities of the real world.
