Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Isuru B — 10 Apr 2011
An effective romantic drama offering insight into the explosive relationship between a charismatic alcoholic and a lonely hooker. Mike Figgis' screenplay sets the tone, which is unflinching in its portrayal of addiciton and the seedier side of the so-called City of Sin.
However the standout feature has to be the performances; Cage gives a career-best turn but it's Shue who really impresses with a powerful and raw performance that captures the viewer's attention and seduces them with her sadness, just as her character seduces her clients.
