Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Viktor G — 19 Feb 2013

Exceptional. It affected me so much in it's portrayal of Las Vegas that I instantly associate the place with it's image in this film (unlucky for Vegas I guess.).

It's a serious story with a serious script, serious performances and serious skill. The outcome is... serious. Nah, the outcome is heartbreaking and thought-provoking- you'll want to watch it again and again. It's dark but never leaves you in that darkness and it certainly doesn't leave you blind. It might leave you feeling a little sad though but hopefully it also deters you from going to the drink to kill that sadness.

Cage fully deserves his Oscar for this one, this film is the road to nowhere that's somehow a deeply important journey. I don't think that will make sense to everyone but it sure made sense to Cage and it makes sense to me. Classic film.
