Review of Leaves of Grass (2009) by Brandon V — 12 Oct 2010
A lot of times I'll be done watching a movie and be confused. Not because I don't understand what happened, because I'm just... blah. I just don't no how to react. After being done watching Leaves of Grass, my What the F#@* moment was there, and it was just amplified a hundred-fold. Leaves of Grass is just so frigging weird. I just can't even react to it.
Edward Norton is great, as always, and it's cool to watch him pull off being two characters. Not many actors can pull off that charade for almost two hours. Because of his great performance, Edward Norton does make the film momentarily entertaining. The movie's oddball nature with Norton's performance do bring some brief funny moments and clever dialogue to the film.
Aside from that, I just really didn't like this film. I appreciate the ambition of what was trying to be done here, I just couldn't get into it. The movie is a mixed bag of pretty much everything. It really does have it all, it has the comedy and the drama and the wit and sometimes the emotion. Yet, it isn't genuine. It's all forced, and it just makes me uncomfortable to watch it. The movie has mood swings! I didn't know what was coming when and it was just... grr... it was frustrating.
I do admire it, I just really don't like it.
