Review of Leaves of Grass (2009) by Mark W — 13 Jan 2011
I really enjoyed this movie for a few reasons. First Norton is a great actor and what he was able to pull off is pretty impressive. It's strange that one person can play two characters on stage at the same time yet still pull off each character successfully. The other thing I truly enjoyed about this film is all of the philosophical questions and topics addressed. They are presented in the most appropriate way which is humor. A tactic that many so called philosophers have utilized from Plato to Voltaire. This is a very dark comedy, but it is able to pull it off in a successful way.
The few things I didn't like was the filler romance story, it felt that it was only there to fill time, but occasionally it offered insight. The other thing is that I'm not sure exactly how I feel about the radical tone shift towards the end. I'm not sure if it added or detracted from the movie. I am certain it changed the movie, I'm just not sure how I feel and I don't think I'll ever know for sure.
That is part of why this movie is so incredible is that it leaves you with a few different aspects in which you can take away from it what you will. I highly recommend this movie. It is certainly different, but in this instance different is good.
