Review of Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990) by Tim B — 06 Mar 2009
This one's tough. I used to despise this one, but buying this "uncut" (is it really?) DVD for it has actually helped me to appreciate it more. This one had no respect from the MPAAssholes, the studio (etc) from day one.
It's basically Part 1 but with a bigger budget and a heavy metal streak. I'm for it! The night scenes, in particular, were amazing. Jeff Burr's editing was also on the ball and will stand out in my head for a while.
Mihailoff plays an awesome Leatherface (you see the "chainsaw" on that mofo?). The script was, at times, poorly written (probably the studio's fault), the ending made absolutely no sense and some characters just disappeared.
This would probably all be explainable if it wasn't for the shit-toss that this movie had to go through. Viggo Mortensen stands out as the psycho that cracked me up. Ken Foree also shows up and is badass.
Kate Hodge was alright but overacted in parts. There was more gore than the R-rated version but still not that much. Good sequel? Your call. I'll stick with it.
