Review of Lean On Me (1989) by Mark E — 03 Nov 2008
Crazy Joe Clark takes his totalitarean style of leadership to run a run-down urban school. Through various techniques: yelling, rule-breaking, expelling large portions of the student body, firing disloyal staff, pretending to encourage suicide, more yelling, etc.
, he ingratiates himself in the school community. His cranky yet cold demeanor begins to crack as the school improves from his unorthodox methods and the school recognizes that he is in fact a benevolent dictator.
It's an incredible story, superbly acted, and masterfully told. The story delves into the politics of the community to the various struggles and daily difficulties within the school staff and students.
