Review of Lean On Me (1989) by Steve P — 20 Feb 2009
A showcase for Freeman's ability to carry a movie on his own. Freeman pulls through with a dominating performance as principal Mr. Clark and we all sit quietly and watch or wind up facing the punishment.
In this case, our punishment for missing this film would be not witnissing the practically overnight turnaround at beleaguered Eastside High. I would love to say that Mr. Clark's impact was unprecedented; however, Avildsen's film rides the coattails of two equally strong high school dramas The Principal and Stand & Deliver.
