Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Paul B — 17 Aug 2007
From its exacting compositions to its ultra-cool hitman hero and ritualistic violence, the influence of this superbly stylized French film noir from Jean-Pierre Melville can be clearly seen in the work of contemporary directors like John Woo and Quentin Tarantino.
Woo's "The Killer" is virtually a spiritual remake, right down to the identically named and equally-suave protagonist.
