Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Mathisse J — 15 Sep 2007
Alain Delon as the stoic professional hitman is perfect casting in this minimalist film. He epitomizes cool, calm and collected. The first 10 or so minutes are completely dialogue free but every second of it is spent waiting for something, anything to happen.
And once it all does, you're left wondering how'd it all happen. Melville apparently was a fan of leaving endings open to the interpretation of all the viewers, and I think he definitely achieved that goal.
