First of all, Alain Delon has got to be one of the sexiest men of all time, particularly in Le Samourai which depends almost entirely on his ability be quietly tall, dark, and handsome. Boy is he ever.

Of course Melville's sense of timing, character, and his willingness to let silence descend over huge portions of the film pulls it all off to great effect as well. Genius!
