Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Dustin F — 02 Jan 2008
Alowing Alain Delon to step into much more masculine of a role pays off in spades. The combination of Japanese thematic elements with the cinematographic style of New Wave French Cinema, makes this one unique film. Melville is a master of dark emotional complexity. This is a film that truly must be watched.
A critical stylistic twin to this film would be Jim Jaramusch's Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.
