Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Marko H — 08 Feb 2008
Just saw this movie again last night (2/7/08) for fourth time & every viewing grows on me...a major influence to any of the similarly themed movies like Luc Besson's Leon (The Professional) or Jarmusch's Ghostdog.
..Alain Delon is a lethal tabula rasa, a hired killer with inimitable style and cunning. from his caged bird--what is it about hitmen & their deep relationships with animals or plants (think Forest Whitaker's doves in Ghostdog or Jean Reno's potted plant in Leon; or, The Professional) to his ritualistic donning of his raincoat and short-brimmed fedora, the entire character performance of Jef Costello by Alain Delon reins in the dramatic tension of this piece.
..at any moment you expect high intense action, but just enough is provided to move the story...definitely worth a visit and revisit...
