Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Bach P — 30 Mar 2008
"Le Samourai" is a brilliantly planned out film. Jef Costello, played by the wicked cool Alain Delon, is a professional killer who creates an elaborate scheme for a murder. "Le Samourai" is by far one of the smartest gangster films ever created, it prides itself in details, even though it gives us few.
The true brilliance of "Le Samourai" is its dedication to suspense. It's not the murder that's frightening, it's the moments leading up to it that make the scene, and the film knows just how long it needs to wait to make you gasp.
"Le Samourai" is a slow, crawling film, but it never ceases to amaze.
