Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Christopher P — 31 Mar 2008
Alain Dion (Jef) plays a hitman, a modern day samurai, who exudes style and cool in 1967 Paris. The opening text of the movie states the samurai is like a 'tiger in the jungle', and the minimalist presentation truly delivers.
The genre is brought to its basic elements and outside of Jef's apartment; Paris truly becomes nothing more than a jungle with the hunter (police), tiger (Jef), and prey (the mark). This is the archetype that later movies have been copying ever since.
A great movie.
