Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Ryan G — 21 May 2009
Jean-Pierre Melville's study of the existential man is remarkable, above all, for its terseness. The film is built largely of silent moments, leaving the viewer searching for hidden motivations, trying to think the characters' thoughts.
Perhaps the simplest and most noble praise for a work of art - it causes you to think.
