Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Benjamin C — 16 Jan 2011
Pure cinema. Short on dialogue and long on cool, Jean-Pierre Melville made a perfect little movie. Melville was a man that lived for cinema - he built his entire life around it, and created his own independent studio in France.
During production of this movie, his studio caught fire and burned to the ground. Sad stuff if you look into it - everything he built was lost. Good thing film is forever, n'cest pas?
