Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Jonny B — 18 Oct 2011
Melville is up to his stylish best in this naked film noir tale. When there's dialogue it's brief. The entire movie rests on the splendid, mannered acting of Delon who plays 'The Samourai'.
A man of solitude called into action in one of the best film-noirs to come from France and an obvious influence on this years 'Drive'. Arguably not Melville's best work but 'Le Samourai' is more Albert Camus than it is any crime noir.
