Review of Le Doulos (1962) by John C — 24 Nov 2008
This might be my favorite film. I am a huge fan of the french new wave and of film noir in general and melville's hybrid is so pinpoint. there is an american 1940s feel to it but melville's make it quinessential french.
this is definetely the best french gangster film since rififi and quite possibly one of the most underrated films of the period much less melville.
