Review of Le Cercle Rouge (1970) by Robert O — 05 Feb 2008
Another stylish crime thriller from Melville. Le Cercle Rouge maintains a reserved demeanor right until the very end. It pulses with coolness, yet contains enough depth to avoid becoming stagnant. Not as immediate or arresting as Le Samourai or Army in the Shadows, but nonetheless an essential film for foreign cinema enthusiasts.
