Review of Lazy Eye (2016) by Patrick C — 28 Jul 2017
I must admit that I kept resisting watching Lazy Eye based on the blurb but as it kept insistently appearing in my recommended movies to watch list; I decided to give it a go and after seeing it, I must say that I am very glad that I did.
The movie is very well written and excellently acted, and I would daresay it is in my top 10 of movies to see. While it does at times seem like a play on film - that is never a bad thing for me. The setting is beautiful and frames the events and characters very well throughout the movie.
As a gay man in my 50s - and having been gay my whole life with relationships spanning every decade from my teens to my current marriage to my spouse/partner of 22 years; I found many moments in the movie that resonated with me. From serious drama to lighthearted moments that all ring true and real-to-life; this is the kind of gay film-making that I find interesting and satisfying to watch. I can only endure so many coming-of-age and coming -out movies no matter how well they are done so this was a very pleasant change.
This is a great movie about life, about love - past and present - and about individual choices, actions and closures. Highly recommended.
