Review of Layer Cake (2004) by Jem S — 11 Apr 2012
It is definitely intricate...I'll give it that. But it seeks to over complicate the simple so it can appear smart. It moves entirely too fast and doesn't let you digest anything that is going. This would really make a better television show or miniseries, but as a film, it's the worst kind of brevity.
That being said, the performances are good, the direction is original, and the characters are memorable. The plot writing really ruined it though.
