Review of Layer Cake (2004) by Izi M — 09 Aug 2009
Before he was James Bond, Daniel Craig starred as Mr. XXXX in this British gangster thriller directed by Matthew Vaughn. This smart and compacted story is filled with numerous twists and turns as Craig's unnamed character lives the life of a cocaine dealer.
Through him and his crew we see how this process works and just how shaky of a business it can be when even those you trust most turn out to be liars. Nothing awe-inspiring is done with the action, but it has enough brutality to make you really feel the punches.
With plenty of wit, humor, and strong performances, Layer Cake is a solid entry into the gangster genre. And if you're a Daniel Craig fan like I am, you'll probably enjoy it even more. 8/10.
