Review of Layer Cake (2004) by Hate Y — 27 Oct 2009
A smart and cool British gangster film. Better directed and a lot deeper than the Guy Ritchie films that it is undoutedly similar to plotwise, but not as original. Begins brilliantly with a great setting and sleek characters and continues to entertain throughout. The only problem is that the movie's plot is underdeveloped. It starts in one direction, then takes a slight detour, after which it merges into another lane, then goes back to the original direction, and then parks at a country club in another county. None of the plotlines are fully explored and just kinda left sitting out on the table, never to be ingested.
Overall though, its an interesting, exciting movie that has enough swag (as the kids say nowadays) to keep you entertained.
7.6/10.
