Review of Layer Cake (2004) by John P — 15 Feb 2010
I love this movie. Yeah, it's the type of movie a person would think is a Guy Ritchie movie, even though it's not. It's certainly better than the recent crop of Guy Ritchie-directed films (I exclude RockNRolla as I haven't yet seen it).
Anyway, I love the style and camerawork (by Ben Davis. This is his 2nd film, and he should be known better than he is), and the writing is damn good. Of course, the draw is Daniel Craig, and he couldn't disappoint if he tried. This is actually my favorite role of his, and I think I saw this before Casino Royale came out, so it may have been my introduction to him. This, or Munich.
Anyway, it's a fucking awesome movie, and very well-made, despite its derivative nature.
