Review of Layer Cake (2004) by Rajansatish P — 25 Nov 2010
Ive always thought of Matthew Vaughn as a mix between Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino, and he proves it with this intricate British gangster thriller. Layer Cake is melting pot of elements from Ritchie's film Snatch and Tarantino's films Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction. It's a flashy tale and a tightly woven web of deception, drugs, and money. A great movie that demands your attention, and that kept my eyes glued to the screen throughout.
Great acting throughout the film including a pre-James Bond performance from Daniel Craig. It also features great performances by Colm Meany, Kenneth Cranham, George Harris, Sienna Miller, and Tom Hardy. It's a seriously dense, convuluted, and convulsive gangster thriller, it's smart and very well made. Cheers to Matthew Vaughn..well done.
