Review of Layer Cake (2004) by Pam E — 17 May 2013
This stylized, electric British crime thriller focuses on the story of XXXX played by Daniel Craig who buys drugs from underground wholesalers and them sells them to street dealers. As this system of drugs is flowing smoothly, XXXX is looking to get out of the game but before his overseer Jimmy Price will let him go, he has a couple of favours that need to be done.
First Jimmy wants him to find the daughter of Eddie Temple played by Michael Gambon before Eddie's men can hold of her and secondly, he wants XXXX to give back a large shipment of ecstasy stolen by Duke from a ecstasy wholesaler named Dragan.
With these two tasks in hands, XXXX isn't so sure he'll get out of this alive after falling for Duke's nephew's girlfriend Tammy played by Sienna Miller. This movie exploits the crime genre with it's use of drugs, gang violence and it does it well making it the movie that brought Daniel Craig to the James Bond franchise.
Layer Cake gets a solid 8/10.
