Review of Layer Cake (2004) by Jaime M — 03 Nov 2013
Super witty and very well written, layer cake definitely packs a punch. Where as many other films of this genre and film style have failed, layer cake has definitely succeeded. Much like Snatch and lock stock, the films use of quirky, violent and hilarious characters makes a somewhat cliche plot come to life.
Daniel Craig plays the Suave young gun who after success in the underground world of narcotics looks forward to leaving it all behind. Well planned and ready to escape it all, his head honcho has him complete a couple of last favors before he is allowed to leave. What follows is a well acted number of scenarios showcasing the different levels and types of people involved in the underground gangster world not just solely linked to that of narcotics.
Comedic and disturbingly violent, Matthew Vaughn and his cast do a superb job of displaying the crazy realm of the dealings of gangsters.
The use of many intertwining time lines and scenarios can sometimes cause confusion but at the end of it all leaves you satisfied with it's great use of structure and come together-ness.
