Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Jareth S — 25 Nov 2010
David Lean's greatest cinematic achievement. If you choose to watch this in pan & scan (non-widescreen), then you are an absolute idiot. The scope format does an excellent job of communicating the vast emptiness of the open desert.
Here's a film that flies in the face of Fritz Lang's annoying anti-Cinemascope comment about 'snakes and funerals' (and Godard can suck it). Someday I hope to see this on the big screen in 70mm and I'm sure I'll love it more.
