Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Adrianne J — 28 Sep 2012
Lawrence represents the doomed hero and idealist, so of course we can relate to him. It is easy to be swept along by his romantic vision of freedom. Sadly, the true nature of man is revealed to us in a sobering and poignant conclusion.
I have never felt this way at the end of a film before. It captures the heroic dimension of man realistically, and it is in that realism that true tragedy lies. This is easily one of my favourite films of all time.
