Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by David F — 04 Mar 2013
This movie yields new evidence of its extraordinary wonder on each viewing, from Peter O'Toole's flawless performance as a sarcastic, ambitious soldier who cracks up after getting seemingly almost everything he aims to achieve, to the sweeping score, march-like in scenes of British army bases, gorgeously oriental when the action takes place out in the desert of the Arabian peninsula.
It achieves perfection as a representative of so many diverse genres: action movie, boys adventure tale, psychological character study, experimental film, documentary, political thriller, epic. It's a play, a poem, a novel, a memoir.
It's perfect.
