The story of Lawrence of Arabia, sent to lead the revolt of British World War One allies, the Arabs, and who was as flamboyant as a rock star, enigmatic and borderline mad. David Lean's film is rightly regarded as one of the best ever.
One adjective suits its every aspect best, and that is magnificent; from its memorable poetic grand scale photography in the desert scenes to the hypnotic rhythm in which the film flows. Not least, the meticulous character study which is inspired by the real story of Lawrence himself, is brought to life in an outstanding way by Peter O'Toole in one of the most remarkable on screen debuts.
The rest of the cast, which includes big names like Alec Guinness and Omar Sharif, adds further depth.
