Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Gavin P — 29 May 2013
Long! Pretty good though - if you take out the no-visual start & the intermission, it's only 3 & a half hours! Still, it's a truly great performance from O'Toole and doesn't get bogged down in too much war or fighting, even though it's World War I.
It's more about one man's journey to save himself and a group of people - very similar to what Patton would do for WWII 10 years later and what Apocalypse Now would do for Vietnam 15 years later.
Sure, it probably could've been edited so there wasn't so much walking through a desert, but it does take you on a journey. Great score, and Alec Guinness/Obi-Wan is barely recognisable as the Prince.
A classic, especially when you consider it's over 50 years old!
