Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Kyle M — 23 Aug 2014
It lives up to its titles from praise: one of the greatest films and most influential of all time. This epically-scaled adventure is genuinely great when the first two-thirds offer lifting moments, backed-up by the dramatic soundtrack, performances, and scenery. These are the kind of stuff that are filled with energy to make a film into a film with a rightful rating of an "A.".
But of course it's not without its flaws. Being overlong is sort-of not a big problem since it's a requirement so there's enough room for the film's energy of being epic. The final third suddenly become convoluting when it's difficult to know what's being planned or simply what's going on.
O'Toole debut performance as the main character of a film that became so big to Hollywood, is a rare way for an actor to be introduced. His great performance of his character represents the film's shifts on how the final third suddenly become convolute, and the film's level going down because of some violence that was happening (another flaw).
"Lawrence of Arabia" is film with greatness and enough energy to be an A-movie. (A-).
