Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Eric M — 30 Aug 2014
Easily the greatest of all the 60's epics, Peter O'Toole is takes a remarkable turn as Lawrence, who becomes the villain of his own story. Or does he? The moral ambiguity and astuteness of Lawrence's descent into madness is incredibly compelling in spite (or perhaps because) of its mammoth length.
The cinematography is jaw-dropping, and the film is remarkably well-paced for a four hour runtime. A must watch for any fan of cinema, well worth the significant time investment. When the worst thing about a film is Alec Guiness's performance, you know you have something special.
(On that note, seriously, whose idea was that?).
