Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Sam C — 07 Oct 2010
It has probably the most breathtaking desert shots ever captured on film and with a beautiful score to go with it. My biggest problem was with Peter O'Toole's acting which was at times comically hammy and at other times painfully stiff.
The thick eyeliner he had on was also often distracting. It's a very long movie and proceeds at a languid pace that devotes more time to Lawrence's desert treks than to any of the pivotal battles he was involved in.
As a result there are surprisingly few thrilling moments in the film despite the exciting period it covers. Still, a great film and a visually arresting one.
