Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Anthony B — 07 Jun 2011
'Lawrence of Arabia' is a decent film that won Best Picture at the Oscars. And based on what I saw in this film, it seems like one of the four other nominees were robbed.
'Lawrence' tells that story of T. E. Lawrence, at the time a British Army lietenant, and his journeys in the Middle East during World War I.
Here's the problem; while I have no problem with long films by themselves (I actually like 'Gone With the Wind', 'Titanic' and 'The Dark Knight'), when they seem like they have been playing for hours on end, it's a bad thing. That's what is wrong with this film; overly long (over three-and-an-half hours) with a slow pacing. Some of the acting was a little on the... 'non Oscar worthy' side. Also, after the intermission the film really isn't that good as it was before.
However, I refrain from giving this a rotten rating based on the fact that it is a beautiful film. The scenery is breathtaking, and some parts just are magnificent, including some battle scenes.
In the end, it's a nicely made film with some good scenes; however, it's not the greatest movie I've ever seen.
